Theatre Company of Saugus is excited to announce the cast of The Underpants, a comedy by the celebrated comic performer and writer Steve Martin. The show is adapted into a hilarious farce from a play by Carl Sternheim, originally written in 1910.
The setting is Düsseldorf, Germany. Puritanical bureaucrat Theo fears a scandal and is outraged at his wife Louise, because her bloomers fell to the ground while she was watching a parade for the king. A variety of characters then show up at their door inquiring about the room for rent.
As scandal turns into spectacle, the characters reflect upon our fascination with fame, our ideas about gender roles, and our enslavement to naughtiness. Full of wacky humor, wordplay, and masterful banter, The Underpants is relevant and most entertaining.
Performances of The Underpants will be February 27 & 28, and March 1, 6, 7, 8, 2015. Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00 PM, and Sunday afternoon matinées at 2:00 PM.

We will have cabaret-style seating with table service for refreshments. We will offer refreshments common to the period of the show, including a variety of tea-time sandwiches, and cheese or fruit plates. Coffee, soda, and water.
Tickets to The Underpants are $18 for adults, or $15 for seniors, students, and children, if tickets are purchased at the door. If you purchase tickets in advance, then they are only $15 for adults or $12 for seniors, students, and children. You can purchase tickets in advance online with a credit card, up until four hours before show time. Or with cash or check via mail or in person up until February 23, 2015. The director of The Underpants will be Larry Segel. He has directed several shows for Theatre Company of Saugus (TCS), including Cherry Orchard, Iphigenia in Aulis, Midsummer Nights Dream, Dancing With Demons-Alcohol, and Little Women. He co-directed Wizard of Oz and Auntie Mame. He has acted in many other TCS shows over the past 20 years. Larry also directed four shows for the Winthrop Playmakers.
The stage manager of The Underpants is Wesley Toma-Lee. He recently staged managed two shows at the Winthrop Playmakers, and will be the stage manager for our spring production of Clue the musical.
The co-producers are Joanne Fafard and Nancy Welch. Joanne was the director of our 2012 production of The Producers. Nancy has been producer of several TCS shows.
Assisting the director will be Sherri Raftery and William Fafard, Jr.
