The Theatre Company of Saugus is pleased to announce its collaboration with The Psych Drama Company, in their presentation of The Lion in Winter, in January 2022. The Lion in Winter is the classic historical play by James Goldman, about King Henry II of England and his meeting with his queen, mistress, children, and rival king at his castle in Chinon, France during Christmas in the year 1183. Who shall succeed him as king? All three sons want to be the one, but how can Henry choose only one without making the others his enemies?

Night of the Living Dead opened last weekend to excited and eventually scared audiences – some more scared than others, depending on their threshold for creepiness and gore. Last Saturday, Neil Zolot attended and spoke to audience, cast members, and artistic staff.

The Youth Theatre Workshop (now in its 11th year) runs in the summer for two weeks – Monday through Friday – followed by three performances the Friday and Saturday after the 10 days of prep end. During those 10 days our Youth Actors (grades 1 to high school) are cast in roles, learn dialogue, music, choreography and assist with the behind the scenes components as well – costumes, props, set painting, and whatever else needs to be created. In addition, there are theater games, lunch time fun, and time to spend with others who are interested in the performing arts – both their contemporaries as well as the instructors who lead them. In addition to Youth Actors, older high school or college students have the opportunity to be student interns and assist our instructors throughout the workshop. This allows them the chance to either focus in a specific area (choreography, lighting, etc.) or try their hand at various backstage endeavors.
We’re very excited about this weekend’s performances and hope the popularity of our Youth Theatre Workshop continues to grow over the next decade and encourages youth in the area to get involved in the performing arts – either on stage or behind the scenes.
A big thank you to all who participated in our production of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. Including the actors, the crew, the director, stage manager, the DCR, Friends of Breakheart, and many others. And especially to our audiences, which were much bigger than anticipated. It was a pleasure to perform in front of a live audience.
Look What I Can Do – From Waaaay Over Here!!! – Quarantine Edition is a video presentation from the Theatre Company of Saugus, showcasing the talents of its members. It’s a compilation of submissions from both the kids who attended our Youth Theatre Workshop 2020, and from a variety of our adult performers. Dramatic and comedic scenes, jokes, readings, dances, songs, solos, duets, and even a big choral number finale! Surprise appearances, both nostalgic and cutting edge! Something for everyone to see, from every kind of performer!
There are three performances, streaming via Zoom, on Friday-Saturday-Sunday 12-13-14 March 2021.
