Musical Revue 2013

A Look at the Past, a Light to the Future is the working title of our Fall 2013 musical revue show.  Including musical numbers and scenes from the past 45 years of shows at Theatre Company of Saugus.  Plus some electric new songs, in this fundraiser for our new lighting equipment!  Performances will be November 22, 23, 24, 29, 30 and December 1.

Directed and coordinated by Suzanne Jalbert and Amanda Allen, featuring the cast of Finian’s Rainbow.  We invite all TCS members to reprise their favorite numbers from any past shows.   And we invite all newcomers who would like to perform.   (We sadly had to cancel our planned production of Finian’s Rainbow because we were unable to complete the required casting.)

All those interested in being in the show should contact us.  Or simply come to a rehearsal, on Sundays at 4-6pm, or on Thursdays at 7pm, at ESUMC.

You should also contact us if you cannot be in the revue, but would are are interested in being in our holiday show, A Storybook Christmas, to be performed on December 20 & 21.

Birds, Snail, Mice, Moles get 2013 DASH Nomination

TCS participates in the highly competitive DASH (Distinguished Award and Special Recognition) program offered by EMACT (Eastern Massachusetts Association of Community Theatres), in which consultants review and rate  many aspects of shows.  Groups and individuals with the highest scores are nominated for awards.

The  nominations for the 2012-13 were announced on 17 July 2013.  The award winners were presented at the annual EMACT Gala, which this year was on Saturday 24 August 2013 starting at 6:00 PM.  For the complete list of nominees and winners, click here.  For a photo gallery of the Gala, click here.

We are proud note that the Theatre Company of Saugus April 2013 musical production of A Year With Frog and Toad was recognized.  The Animals were  nominated for Best Specialty Ensemble in a Musical.  The actors included are  Amanda Allen, Patrick Harris, and Kathleen Tringale.  Congratulations!

Other actors in the show were Matthew Huffman as Toad and Stephen Russo as Frog.  Last year TCS member William Fafard won Best Youth Actor in a Musical for his title role in Oliver!

TCS members who won awards:  Mike Teixeira was one of two winners for Lighting Design of a Musical for Cabaret at MMAS Black Box Theater.  Emily Sheeran was nominated three times for different shows as Best Youth Actress in a Play, and she won for The Woodsman at Hovey Players.  Brian Nickerson was given a Consultant’s Choice Award for Excellence in Musical Accompaniment for The 39 Steps at Firehouse Center for the Arts.

Other TCS members who got nominations are:  Brian Dion for Set Design of Second Samuel at Burlington Players; and Grace Meidanis for Best Prop Coordination of a Musical for You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown at Winthrop Playmakers.  We also note that Steve Black was nominated for Best Direction of a Musical for Next to Normal at Marblehead Little Theatre, because he has been appointed as the next Drama teacher at Saugus High School.

TCS participants in the production of the Gala include James Wlodyka, who provided the Sound equipment and operation, assisted by Amanda Allen; and Larry Segel who operated the Lights.

You can read fascinating insights about the production in a chronicle about the rehearsal process  in Nathan’s Blog.

First Run-Thru

At rehearsal tonight for The Glass Menagerie, the actors performed what is called a “stumble through,” in which the show is run without using the scripts.  It continues to be very exciting to watch these four talented performers depend only on themselves and their characterizations, which has been the case all along; they are all very successful. This show is going to be amazing!

The lighting designer, Larry Segel, was in attendance to discuss the lighting for the show, and that was also a treat.  The set design is going to be wonderful, and will help establish the tone of the show.  Without giving too much away, I will say that you will feel like you are present in the lives of these four people.

Let me also say that there are some modern things being blended into the show to give it a contemporary edge while still maintaining the depth and perfection of the play.  Lexi Deschene is doing an incredibly job as director, assisted by Nicholas Meunier. This production will leave you breathless!

Keep a look out for more on The Glass Menagerie presented by the Theatre Company of Saugus, August 9 – 11 & 16 – 18, 2013.  Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30 PM, and Sunday performances are at 2:00, at the East Saugus United Methodist Church.
