Theatre Company of Saugus is hosting
The Lion in Winter is the classic historical play by James Goldman, about King Henry II of England and his meeting with his queen, mistress, children, and rival king at his castle in Chinon, France during Christmas in the year 1183. Who shall succeed him as king? All three sons want to be the one, but how can Henry choose only one without making the others his enemies?
The Theatre Company of Saugus is excited to be hosting a professional Boston-area theatre company for the first time. The Psych Drama Company has been presenting innovative work for more than 10 years, in various venues around Boston and in Rhode Island.
This production is co-directed by Wendy Lippe of Psych Drama Company and Larry Segel of Theatre Company of Saugus.
While rehearsing the Lion in Winter when theaters were closed, an audio radio-play version was recorded, and that was streamed in December 2020. How to Purchase Tickets:
Advance online sales, using any major credit card, are open until four hours before the curtain time. If available, seats can be purchased at the door for the same price, using cash, check, Venmo, or PayPal, but no credit cards. Ticket prices are the same for all patrons.
COVID Safety Policy Update
Although policies about wearing masks and providing proof of vaccination have been loosening up in many places, in theaters we still must ensure the safety of our patrons, members, actors, and crew, by minimizing the risk of contagion. Our home at the Saugus American Legion is not large and social distancing is not possible.
Therefore we will continue to require our audience to wear masks inside (unless actively eating or drinking), and to be vaccinated. All the cast members of our shows are vaccinated, will be masked during rehearsals, and will be tested prior to performances.
This is especially important for this production as there will be immersive seating and audience and cast will be VERY close to each other.
About Psych Drama Company
The Psych Drama Company was founded in December of 2010 by Wendy Lippe, Ph.D. As a clinical psychologist, Wendy’s vision in starting this company is to integrate her professional expertise with her work as a creative artist. They aim to produce dramatic pieces that engage the large community of mental health professionals in the Boston area, as well as to stimulate and foster psychological mindedness and insight in the community at large.
It is important to them that their productions target not only professionals in the field, including psychologists, psychiatrists, mental health workers, and social workers, but also members of the general public: they aim to be equally accessible to professionals and laypeople alike. Their ultimate goal is to make all of the greatest classic works of drama relevant to today’s audiences by focusing on the timeless elements of human nature.
About Theatre Company of Saugus
The Theatre Company of Saugus (TCS) is the community theatre group serving Saugus, Massachusetts and the surrounding area. Founded in 1968 as the “Town-Criers”, they incorporated in 1990 as a not-for-profit corporation.
Their mission statement is, “To foster and promote an appreciation of the theatre arts and to stimulate production of living theatre for the entertainment and cultural enrichment of the community.”
TCS is currently in the process of getting back to having 3-4 Main Stage productions per year + their Summer Youth Workshop, which culminates in a weekend of performances.
