West Coast Swing Dance Fundraising Event 2

Theatre Company of Saugus invites all with two-left feet and/or experienced dance skills to our quarterly West Coast Swing Dance Fundraising Event!

West Coast Swing is a social dance boasting a social night of this improvisational street dance in every major US city and many European, Asian, and South-Pacific countries. The art-form is characterized by its roots in big-band swing, incorporating movements from hip-hop, jazz, tap, and ballet, and danced to many songs played on today’s radio/Spotify playlist.

Bring yourself, a partner, a few friends, and/or the whole family, to learn and laugh through this ever evolving creative outlet.

College Students: $5 for Dance, $10 for Dance and Lessons

PARKING/LOCATION
Free parking lot and street parking. Location will be at The American Legion in Saugus (44 Taylor St, Saugus, MA 01906) and is located in and around residential buildings.

BAR/REFRESMENTS:
There will be a cash bar located in the corner of the room serving water, soda, or alcoholic beverages to anyone 21+ with a valid ID. Reasonable prices. Bar is open 7:30 to 11:30 PM.

COVID Safety Policy:
Things might change but as of now this will be a fully vaccinated + mask required event. Please be ready to show your vaccine card at the door.

Spring Awakening gets 11 DASH Nominations & One Award

Congratulations to long-time TCS member Kathleen Tringale, who won the EMACT DASH award for Best Choreography for a Musical, for the TCS production of Spring Awakening. The award, announced at the Gala on August 20, 2022, was well deserved, as her choreography for the show was amazing.

Each year the Eastern Massachusetts Association of Community Theaters (EMACT) conducts the Distinguished Achievement and Special Honors (DASH) program, in which shows are evaluated, leading possibly to awards (like the Tonys) announced at the annual DASH Gala. The nominees for shows performed in 2021-22 were announced on Wednesday 20 July 2022, via a YouTube streamcast.

The Theatre Company of Saugus (TCS) production of Spring Awakening, presented in May 2022, was nominated for 11 awards:

  • Supporting Male Actor in a Musical – David Picariello as Moritz
  • Sound Design for a Musical – Patrick Dzierzak
  • Lighting Design for a Musical – Nathan Fogg-DeSisto
  • Makeup and Hair Design for a Musical – James Valentin
  • Costume Design for a Musical – James Valentin
  • Lead Female Actor in a Musical – Rachel Pride as Wendla
  • Choreography for a Musical- Kathleen Tringale
  • Music Direction for a Musical – Kelvyn Koning
  • Ensemble in a Musical – The Cast
  • Director of a Musical – Bobby Imperato
  • Best Musical – Spring Awakening

TCS members also were nominated for roles in the productions of other local theaters.

  • Supporting Actor in a Musical – Will Farfard Jr. in Into The Woods at Pentucket Players
  • Supporting Actor in a Play – John Pease in Drinking Habits at Colonial Chorus Players
  • Costume Design for a Play – Elvira Schoenthal for Translations at Marblehead Little Theatre
  • Stage Management of a Play – Monica Bruno for Sense and Sensibility at Concord Players
  • Specialty Ensemble in a Musical – Will Fafard Jr. and others as The Infantry in Evita at The Pentucket Players
  • Direction of a Musical – Jason Hair-Wynn for The Bridges of Madison County at The Burlington Players,

The award winners were announced at the DASH Gala on Saturday 20 August 2022, at Cary Hall in Lexington. Food and drinks started at 6:30 PM, and the awards presentation started at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $40 each. Click here for more information about the Gala.

Seeking Staff for 2022 Summer Youth Programs

The Theatre Company of Saugus (TCS) is seeking the primary artistic staff for running our summer 2022 Youth Theatre Workshops. This year we are running two programs: for younger and older youth. Each program will culminate in a junior musical production, each of which will have three performances.

The show to be presented by the younger kids will be Willy Wonka Jr. The show to be presented by the older kids will be Addams Family Young@Part. Stipends are offered for each position.

To apply for any of these positions, send an email to TCSaugus@gmail.com, including your theatrical resume, an indication of which positions you are applying for, and a brief letter with remarks about the shows and/or your background.

The deadline to apply is Monday 23 May 2022. You should be available for an interview with the TCS board of directors, via zoom, on the evening of Tuesday 24 May 2022.

There are seven positions open. Following are the job description announcements for each position.

Younger Youth Program Positions:

TCS is seeking an energetic youth Director for their two week intensive youth performance of Willy Wonka Jr. Applicants must work well with students aged 7 to 13. The dates for this summer camp are August 1 – 13, 2022, with performances on August 12 and 13. The camp runs Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. as well as 8 hours of alternate set build time. Responsibilities include directing, casting, and designing the piece. As well as working collaboratively with a creative team, teaching theatrical workshops, leading theater games, providing guidance and support to student interns. An educational background is appreciated. The Company requires that all applicants be vaccinated for COVID-19. 

TCS is seeking a Choreographer for their two week intensive youth performance of Willy Wonka Jr. Applicants must work well with students aged 7 to 13. Position Serving Both the Younger and Older Programs

TCS is seeking a Technical Director for their youth productions of both Willy Wonka Jr. and Addams Family Young@Part. Applicants must work well with students aged 7 to 18. The dates for this summer camp are July 18 thru August 27, 2022, with performances on August 12, 13, 26, 27, 2022. A firmer schedule is TBA, but applicants must have a flexible schedule, availability during the hours of 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., and access to a motor vehicle. Responsibilities include designing one multi-purpose set for two productions, general understanding of theatrical lighting and light board operation, working collaboratively with a creative team, teaching theatrical technical workshops, leading theater games, designing and execution of costuming and props, providing guidance and support to student interns. An educational background is appreciated. The Company requires that all applicants be vaccinated for COVID-19. 

Seeking Artistic Staff for Zombie Prom

The Theatre Company of Saugus (TCS) is seeking the artistic staff for its upcoming musical projects in 2022. Stipends are available.

We are seeking each of these positions:

  • Directors
  • Musical Directors
  • Choreographers

For this show:

Zombie Prom – Our annual Halloween season musical theatre production. Featuring adult and older youth actors. Auditions and rehearsals could begin August 21; usually three times per week. Performances are on two weekends, evening shows on Fridays & Saturdays, and matinees on Sundays; October 21 thru October 30, 2022.
