Improv Comedy Troupe

Theatre Company of Saugus now has a new improvisational comedy troupe.  We have chosen the name “Back to Square One”.

The first performance was at the TCS general meeting on 30 January 2014.  Those performing included:  Josh Carter, Brittany Daley, Racheal Gilman, Brittnay Mitchell, Larry Segel, Jess Stockton, Sarah Thibodeau.

We expect to add additional members to the troupe as we continue to rehearse and perform.  New members are welcome!  If you are interested in joining, please contact us, with attention to our organizer, Britt Mitchell.

[title of show] is wonderful!

Audiences love our show.  Tickets are on sale for the remaining performances of our production of [title of show], which is the actual title of the show.  It’s a very clever musical show about writing a show about writing a show.

Goldstar members can get tickets at a discounted price!

Production Playbill 2014-2015

The Theatre Co. of Saugus is proud to announce it’s upcoming 2014-2015 season, which was recently approved by the general membership. The season will focus on comedic and community favorites, aimed at continuing to foster appreciation of and participation in the arts in our Saugus community and the vibrant local theater community of Eastern Massachusetts.

Early Summer 2014:  The return of our successful theater workshops for adults (subjects to be determined)

Mid Summer 2014:  Our new successful tradition, the Children’s Theatre Workshop, culminating in a junior musical production

Early-Mid Fall 2014:  Charlotte’s Web, a family drama with a cast of all ages

December/Holidays 2014:  Nuncrackers, the hilarious Christmas show from the world of Nunsense

Winter 2015:  The Underpants, a wonderful comedy, adapted by Steve Martin from the original 1910 play, Die Hose, by Carl Sternheim.

Spring 2015:  Clue, the Musical, based on the board game and the movie.

We will be soliciting applications in the winter and spring of 2014 for production staff of all of these shows:  director, music director, choreographer, producer, stage manager.

Just as a reminder, the remainder of our current 2013-2014 season:

Winter 2014:
[title of show] – a musical by Bowen & Bell

Spring 2014:
Macbeth – a drama by William Shakespeare

Board Elections

Returning members were elected to the Board of Directors at the Annual General Membership Meeting, for terms beginning in January 2014. The meeting was on Tuesday 26 November 2013 starting at 7:30 PM.  At ESUMC.

Matthew Huffman and Nicholas Meunier were reelected to their second three-year terms, ending in 2016.

There are still two openings on the board.  Amanda Allen must retire because she has reached her limit of two terms.  Kathleen Tringale is retiring before the end of her term.  We also have three open positions for Alternate members.

If you would like to be considered for election to the Board, please contact any board member or the Nominating Committee.  Vacancies can be filled at the next general meeting on January 30, 2014.

The board has a meeting once each month, usually on the first Wednesday.  Board members are also expected to attend quarterly General Meetings, and to be active participants in TCS shows and events.  Board and General members also serve on a variety of committees.

Look/Light Revue and Your Memories

Tickets are now on sale to our musical revue, A Look at the Past, A Light to the Future.  Audiences have greatly enjoyed the first weekend.  The remaining performances are Friday & Saturday 29 & 30 November 2013 at 7:30 PM, and on Sunday 1 December at 2:00 PM.   A clever mashup of favorite musical numbers from past shows put on by the Theatre Company of Saugus, plus songs about “light”.  Your eyes will light up when you see this show!

For this show, which celebrates the past 45 years of performances, friendship, creativity and community, we asked everyone to submit their favorite TCS memory.  These are on display during the show.  We have all enjoyed reading these heartfelt messages.  Feel free to submit additional memories by sending us an email message (see Contact Us), or click here to go to our Facebook posting.  We are looking forward to hearing all your wonderful memories!   Spread the word; thanks!

Storage Cleanup

We will have a storage cleanup work party on Saturday 14 December.  Starting at 9:00 AM and going until 3:00 PM.  We need to rearrange, move, discard, and organize our stuff so as to be able to fit all of it more efficiently.  This includes set pieces, drapes, props, costumes, and equipment.

We keep our stuff in three main locations, at Central Storage; in the sheds on the Nickole property; and a few things are at ESUMC.  The work party could be at any of these locations, so contact us in advance if you will be helping, so that we can let you know where we will be during the work party day.  You can find all of these on the map on our Directions page.

Please bring vehicles so that you can help us transport stuff from one place to another, if needed.  Pickup trucks, mini-vans, hatchbacks.  Please empty your own stuff out first so that there is room.

If you have room in your basement or garage to keep our stuff, let us know.  It should be dry but need not be heated.

Please do not bring us more donated stuff.  Unless you make arrangements with us in advance, because it is something we can use for our shows during the upcoming season.

If you are detail oriented and good with spreadsheets, we need someone to start and maintain an inventory of our stuff.
