TCS earns many 2018 DASH Nominations

The nominations for the 2018 annual DASH awards were announced on July 19.  The Theatre Company of Saugus production of Spelling Bee was honored with seven nominations!

The Eastern Massachusetts Association of Community Theaters (EMACT) sent out consultants to review 132 shows in the 2017-2018 season.  Ratings are made in many categories, and those with the six highest ratings get DASH (Distinguished Achievement and Special Honors) nominations.  The winners in each category were announced at the annual EMACT DASH Gala, which was held on Saturday 25 August 2018, at Carey Hall in Lexington.

The TCS production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee earned these nominations:

  • Best Set Design for a Musical – Nicholas Raponi
  • Best Set Dressing for a Musical – Amanda Allen, Bobby Imperato, Nicholas Raponi, Jamie Trevino
  • Best Props Design for a Musical – Amanda Allen, Damien LaCount, Bobby Imperato, Jamie Trevino
  • Best Supporting Actor in a Musical – Nicholas Raponi
  • Best Choreography of a Musical – Kristin McGregor
  • Best Ensemble of a Musical
  • Best Production of a Musical

The cast of Spelling Bee, nominated for Best Ensemble, included:  Suzanne Mills, Nicholas Raponi, Lauren Amaru, Tessa Berliner, David Picariello, Amanda Raponi, Daria Contino, Daniel Ehrenpreis, and Sean Perry.  The director was Bobby Imperato, and the stage manager was Jamie Trevino (now Jamie Imperato).  The musical director was Benjamin Tan.  Since we were nominated for Best Production of a Musical, the cast  performed a number from the show at the Gala!

In addition, some other TCS members were nominated for their work with other theater companies.  And a few of them won!  Congratulations to all!

  • Best Sound Design of a Play – Nicholas Meunier – Fahrenheit 451 – Cannon Theater
  • Best Lead Actor in a Musical – Richie DeJesus – In the Heights – Nashoba Players
  • Best Lead Actress in a Musical – Tristyn Sepersky – Heathers – Footlight Club.  Tristyn won this award!
  • Best Choreography of a Musical – Samantha Brior-Jones – Heathers – Massasoit Theater Company.  Samantha was a co-winner of this award.
  • Best Musical Direction – James Murphy – Parade – The Umbrella.  James was a co-winner of this award.

Auditions for Lizzie will be taking place Sunday, July 22 from 4PM to 8PM and Tuesday, July 24 from 6PM to 10PM.

Lizzie: The Musical

We are in search of a Music DirectorTechnical Director, and Stage Manager for this production. A stipend is available for each of these positions.
Lizzie is a rock musical featuring 4 (potentially 8) female vocalists with a rock band that evolves into a character of sorts over the course of the musical.

Children of Eden

We are in search of a Director, Musical Director, Technical Director, and Stage Manager for this production. A stipend is available for each of these positions.
Children of Eden follows Adam, Eve, Noah and the “Father” who created them as they deal with the headstrong, cataclysmic actions of their respective children. The show ultimately delivers a bittersweet. but inspiring. message: that “the hardest part of love… is letting go.”

We are in search of a Director, Technical Director, and Stage Manager for this production. A stipend is available for each of these positions.
Steel Magnolias is a play concerned with a group of gossipy southern ladies in a small-town beauty parlor, the play is alternately hilarious and touching — and, in the end, deeply revealing of the strength and purposefulness which underlies the antic banter of its characters.

ADDITIONAL STAFFING NEEDS

In addition, we are looking for SetLightingSoundCostume, and Props Designers for each show in the season to complete our Production Team.
Closer to the performance dates we will need Set Builders, Painters, Sound and Light Board Operators, and Front of House Staff  (concessions, ushers, etc.). If you have not volunteered with us before, but would like to start, this is a great way to get involved!

What’s All the Buzz About?

Opening weekend of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee – Music & Lyrics by William Finn; Book by Rachel Sheinkin; Conceived by Rebecca Feldman – was a resounding success. Our amazing cast and creative team have brought together all the elements to give the audience an exciting romp through the middle school spelling bee – full of drama, family, desperation, hope, friendship, and perseverance.

We have three performances left and two are SOLD OUT!
