Glass Menagerie gets underway

by Nathan Goulart-Pasco

The Theatre Company of Saugus is so excited to present The Glass Menagerie, the classic work of Tennessee Williams.  This play has four characters that will fill the room with emotion.  I am excited to say that I will be blogging some of the process, as far as rehearsals and production matters go, which should be very exciting.

TCS held auditions and had many talented actors, but ultimately there were only four roles to be cast; we are excited to announce the cast!  Kyle Raiche as Tom Wingfield, our narrator and protagonist looking back on his past as he recalls his life with his family.  Wendy Lippe as Amanda Wingfield, the now-abandoned mother of the Wingfields whose dedication towards the family may have turned to a feeling of resentment.  Michelle Mount as Laura Wingfield, sister to Tom and the eldest child of the family, who has had a childhood illness and now somewhat lives in a world that is non-reality based.  Finally, Derek Bousquet as Jim O’Connor, a coworker of Tom’s who knows Laura from their childhood.

The production team consists of Lexi Deschene as the director, whose vision for this classic piece will move the audience and tell the story in such a wonderful way.  She will be assisted by Nick Meunier.  The stage manager is Jessica Stockton, who will be assisted by Maggie Palermo.

We are all very excited with this summer production, which will be presented August 9 – 11 and August 16 – 18, 2013, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 PM and Sundays at 2:00 PM at the East Saugus United Methodist Church.  This is a beautiful piece of theatre full of symbolism, and I look forward to following the production process.  Keep on the lookout for more on The Glass Menagerie presented by the Theatre Company of Saugus.

Hey, Look What I Can Do! A Youth Talent Showcase

We are putting together a talent show for any youth who would like to showcase a talent of theirs.  The performance dates are Friday & Saturday 14 & 15 June 2013.  Performers are kids ages 18 and under.  We are looking for talents of all kinds, including but not limited to singing, dancing, improvisation, martial arts, story telling, etc.  Rehearsals will occur during May and June, in one hour increments on a schedule to be determined.  Rehearsals will be during our usual time slots:  Sundays 6-9 PM, Tuesdays 7-10 PM, Thursdays 7-10 PM.  The facilitator will be Jessica Stockton, with help from other TCS members and parents.  Tickets for the performances will cost $10.

We are pleased to announce our musical director / accompanist for the show:  Suzi Jalbert!  She just musically directed our spectacular hit A Year With Frog and Toad.

The audition dates for the talent show are Tuesday & Thursday 14 & 16 May 2013, starting at 6:30 PM.  The location is the East Saugus United Methodist Church at 85 Chestnut Street / Saugus, MA.  (See our Directions page.)

Here are some guidelines to consider when thinking of your talent:

  1. Individuals, duos, or groups are all allowed to audition their act.
  2. Acts are to fit into a 5–10 minute slot. No longer than 10 minutes with reasonable exception.
  3. Acts must be appropriate for all ages. Nothing crude or offensive.
  4. You may audition without a specific talent to be part of a separate skit group.
  5. Those auditioning for specific talents may also apply to be in the skit crew.
  6. Pianist will be provided, but any other accompaniment will need to be provided by performer.
  7. Performers must provide all materials for their talent (sheet music, costumes, recordings etc.  But if TCS has a costume or prop that a performer would like to use they may request to use it.)

Cast announced for The Glass Menagerie

We have completed the Auditions for our summer 2013 production of The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams.  The performance dates are August 9-11 & 16-18.  For the cast announcement and more information about the show, please see our Glass Menagerie page.

Nancy Lemoine

We are very sad to report the passing of Ms. Nancy Lemoine, a longtime core member of Theatre Company of Saugus, on Thursday 18 April 2013.  She was fighting cancer for the past year.  She was an actor, director, and music director for many of our shows.  For more information about her, please see our Nan Through The Years page.  Here are the arrangements, as announced by Pastor Bob Leroe:

The wake will be next Friday 26 April 2013 from 4 to 8 PM, at Bisbee-Porcella Funeral Home.   The funeral will be the following day, Saturday 27 April at 9 AM, at the Cliftondale Congregational Church.  The graveside service will be at Woodlawn cemetery, and the collation will be a luncheon at Spinelli’s, on Route 1 South in Lynnfield.  Rev. Roger Nelson (retired priest at St. John’s Episcopal Church) and I will be conducting the service, and our choir will be singing.  These are all the details I have at this time.  Please keep Nancy’s friends and loved ones in your prayers.  She has touched all our lives, and we are richer for it. Our comfort is in knowing that her suffering is past and she is in her true home.  Under the Mercy, Pastor Bob.

Looking for new Alternate Board Members

Because of recent resignations from the TCS Board of Directors, two of our Alternate Board Members have been promoted to full board positions:  Matthew Huffman and Larry Segel.  This leaves only one Alternate member, Nathan Goulart-Pasco, and we normally have three.  We are therefore looking for two people who would like to be appointed to the two open Alternate positions.  We are particularly interested in adding people who are residents of the town of Saugus, but any interested Theatre Company members are welcome.  To apply, or if you have questions, please write to us at tcsaugus@gmail.com, or speak to any current board member.

The Alternate Board Member positions run only to the end of the calendar year 2013.  (They can be reelected for 2014 and so forth.)  Alternates are expected to attend all board meetings, which are usually on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:30 PM.  (The next board meeting is May 8, 2013).  Alternates participate in discussions but do not normally vote.  Unless, because of absences, we do not have a quorum of full board members at a meeting, then the alternates will vote at that meeting, being temporarily added to the board to fill the quorum.
